Picuntu installation issues on my MK802III 4Gig

Postby Hans » Sat Jul 27, 2013 4:11 pm

Picuntu installation issues on my MK802III

IN STEP 1
1. Flash entire ROM to your MK802III or MK802IIIS using the tool below:
http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/downloads/RO ... 802III.zip

I completed the Flash procedure, with the Finless RK AndroidTool v1.35,(Finles 1.4 rom ).
The MK802III loads up the firmware but hangs without completing the installation, on my MK802III.
I recovered from it by shorting pin 6 and 7 and flashing the latest Rikomagic JB stock FirmWare.
I retried the same procedure with the Finless RK AndroidTool v1.35,(Finles 1.7 rom ) and it flashes and loads up into his version Android4.1.1 , and it is working as expected.

Question 1: Is it, and how do I know, whether or not, the linux kernel is present in the recovery partition of my MK802III .

IN STEP 2
2. Flash the SD card image below to a 16GB or more SD card:
http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/downloads/pi ... k802III.7z

Question 2: Flashing the SD card image with "picuntu_home_mk802III.img" file Is that the same as copying in a PC the img file on to a micro SD card ?

Hello, I installed picuntu on my mk 802 8g iiis bt and works well. I used Win32 Disk Imager to dump the image to a kingston micro sd 16g class 10 and all ok. I have raised the following problems:
- Wifi does not work and i dont know how to configure it
- Does not work with usb lan adapter and not know how to configure it
- Gives problems with disks and ntfs partitions

For : xlopezv
- Wifi does not work and i dont know how to configure it
- Does not work with usb lan adapter and not know how to configure it

I hope this compatibility chart will help http://dl.miniand.com/tecknight/RK3066Devices.html
I understand not all lan adapters do work see this topic viewtopic.php?f=2&t=496
I do not know anything about disks and ntfs partitions.

I have a question for you.
I have a MK802III.
I Flashed it twice As per Andy's downloads
1. Flash entire ROM to your MK802III or MK802IIIS using the tool below:
http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/downloads/RO ... 802III.zip

The MK802III loads up the firmware but hangs without completing the installation.
I finally flashed a newer version of Finless rom 1.7 with the RK AndroidTool v1.35. and that loaded as it should.
I am still wondering now, if the linux kernel is present in the recovery partition. and how, can I find out.
In any case, the Win32 Disk Imager flashed sd card, does absolutely nothing .
I tried restarting the unit and android simply shows up and I than in android I tried su and reboot recovery.every time it loads Android.
What version Finless rom did you load and do you have any suggestions.

I followed the steps in the first post and I have used the files of the links. First I flashed the riko with software and drivers of download link, after I flashed the microsd with win32 Disk Imager, 16gb is in my case. with the card inserted, the startup will be riko picuntu. sorry I can not help more.

1. Flash entire ROM to your MK802III or MK802IIIS using the tool below:
http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/downloads/RO ... 802III.zip

2. Flash the SD card image below to a 16GB or more SD card:
http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/downloads/pi ... k802III.7z

in relation to the previous post, thanks for the information. I have seen that the system is not compatible with bluetooth and wifi chip in my riko, a MK802iiis bluetooth. I look for a USB external device Realtek 8188 Wifi. hope it works.

Is this 3.0.8+ or newer 3.0.36 kernel? - The recovery image 3.0.36 compiled and provided by galland doesn't work for me on MK802 III - system doesn't boot and colour are off

I have a MK802III.4GB
I Flashed it twice As per Andy's downloads

1. Flash entire ROM to your MK802III or MK802IIIS using the tool below:
http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/downloads/RO ... 802III.zip

The flash tool says at the bottom "Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb".
1) I Pressed the button in the flash tool "Erase NAND (IDB)". and it did finish.
2) I Pressed the "Flash ROM" button. It took about 2 minutes to do it's thing. No errors!
3) After flash and no errors, the mk802III did restart with a bunch of script on the TV.
4) Script stopped with the following notice

[ 4.869911] camera 33-1-gc2035_front_Z: Probe gc2035_front_Z failed

Message : Busybox v1.20.2 (Debian 1:1.20.0-7)built-in shell (ash)
Enter help for a list of build-in commands

/bin/sh: can’t access tty: job control turned off
(initramfs)

Snowblind, see above, seem to have the same problem
Any body can shed some light on my problem

Hi everybody,

Can you guys please help me with an issue?
Can you please tell me how did you manage to flash the picuntu_home_mk802III.img file on a 16GB card ?
My 16GB card has a real capacity of 14.7 GB and the .img file after decompression has 14.8 GB. Because of this the win32diskimager can't write the file on card, error: "Not enough space".

How did you do it? What card did you use?

Thank you in advance.

You may want to test the card with H2testw
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Sys ... estw.shtml
to see what is the real capacity.

Or free up some hidden files in partitions, windows has no access.
Use this SD formater
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Fil ... tter.shtml

Hans, thank you very much for your support. Unfortunately for me your suggestions did't fix the issue. I had to purchase a 32 GB card to flash the img file.
The flashing procedure was straight forward and it succeeded from the first try. Now I have Picuntu on my RM803iii device :D
Indeed the image is loaded with a lot of software. andykirby did a fine job with this image. Great work !

Now i have another issue. On my Samsung HD TV the image is not centered. The edges/sides of the screen isn't visible! The image is outside the TV screen. Changing the resolution isn't fixing the situation.
Did any of you guys experienced something like this?
Is there any option to center the image?

Thank you very much.
