Hi Everyone,

I am pleased to announce the opening of this dedicated forum to discuss Picuntu Linux on the MK802III(S)

For those that don't know, Picuntu is a distro based on Ubuntu Linux that will run on the MK802III(S) devices.

It's fast, allows your MK802III(S) to be used as a desktop computer and its perfect for everyday tasks, just plug into a monitor, add a keyboard and mouse and you are away!

Full guides for installation specific to the MK802III(S) will be available soon. Meanwhile if you cant wait you can check out the official Picuntu site at:

http://ubuntu.g8.net

Thanks,

Andy

Sadly not yet.

Should get the lapdock in the next couple of day, but the MK802 IIIs is going to take a couple more weeks as are the required cables.

Super excited though as i just sold my 17" monster laptop as i found that in almost every situation it was too big to use as a laptop. I was looking at ultrabooks as a replacement but this whole solution has cost me about £120 so it was a no brainer....

Hi,

First of all, I really appreciate you bringing linux to mk802iii :D
I tried to install using the guide on the official picuntu site, but there are only roms available for the ug802 and mk808, is it really necessarily to install an other rom to be able to flash the linux kernel?

thanks,

paashaasje

P.S. Do you have any indication when the simple install we become available?

Hi Andy! Hi all!
I got my MK802IIIs a couple of weeks ago.
I'm totally new to android, though old (very old  ) to linux.
So it took me a while to understand how to flash the finless rom.
I finally managed to do it, although I had to use a MS pc... which made me so ... unhappy  :D
However, this is the situation at the moment:
I reboot in recovery mode and find the beloved bunch of messages saying that I'm on linux !
I can login the shell as root but when I run picuntu-da-server I get stuck at the network configuration...
I have no clue.
(some module missing? or? ...)

I'm also wondering: is there a way to start xfce or whatever else graphic environment from the shell?
I've tried startx and startxfce but none worked.
I had quick look into the /usr/bin/ but couldn't find help there...
Well, but this is a minor issue, so far.

Any suggestion?

In any case, thanks a lot for this great piece of job!

Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon every day. It will always be helpful to read content from other authors and use a little something from their web sites.
